James Cameron is a great filmmaker, I admit it. Titanic had a dumb ending but up to the last 5 mins it was cool. I love True Lies, and Terminator & Terminator 2. I can’t comment on Aliens because I don’t watch scary films (or so-called chick flicks either…sick). I didn’t see Avatar until like January 20th, so it had been out for a month already, giving me time to hear people’s rave reviews and hail Marys on how SPECTACULAR it is. Then Cameron was on Oprah and she went on and on and on then told Cameron how the world needs people like him and blah blah, then Lady GAGA came on and did a monster dance, and talked about how she had Oprah’s private chef make her fried chicken for breakfast, and…WAIT…oh yeah AVATAR.
AVATAR ::Spoiler Alert:: Well its been more than 2 months so unless you live in an undersea cave this should be no spoiler….
Avatar is visually stunning film. But the plot is less than good. True Lies has a better plot than Avatar. There I said it. The only Oscar the film deserves is for its technical advances and use of technology in film. That’s all. Screenplay…no. The story is basically Fern Gully, with tall, irredescent smurf-colored aliens instead of fairies. There I said that too. Even though I said it when I first saw Avatar previews, like forever ago, I am not the first person to post it on the internet. Thank God! Its good to know other people caught this too. I even found a page called Avatar: The Last Samurai Dances with Wolves in Fern Gully. LOL…This story is sooo over done. Its beyond done. Its burnt to a crisp done. Its crispy, so crispy…
What Cameron is really good at is creating worlds we believe in, and strong female lead characters…who are actually…wait if you think about it…they have a lot in common…Ellen Ripley, Sarah Conor, Rose DeWitt, and now Neytiri…hmmm, I’m sure you could compare them and they may or maynot be the same person. Strong, rebellious, independent female…check.
Here are the other websites I came across when wondering if I was the only person who saw Avatar as just live action Smurfs in Fern Gully.

Trailer Mash ups:
There are other mash-ups that mix Avatar with Pocahontas, Dances with Wolves…the list goes on. Basically any film where the white guy comes in to at first destroy the native inhabitants of an unfamilar land/world, falls in love with the exotic (yet still she somehow possesses eurocentric features) woman, which then allows him to realize their world/way of life is equal to his own and deserves protection which only he can give. And that’s the entire plot of Avatar. So you could just rent Fern Gully and watch it with blue glasses on.
Still I give Cameron credit for his visual effects, and the actors for having to work with a green screen most of the time. Too bad Zoe Saldana had to be an alien the whole time though…she’s so pretty, as a human. Honestly the Blue people creeped me out in IMAX 3D…especially with that whole hair braid = USB port thing…weird & gross, my mind could not make the whole linking thing non-sexual…I’m sorry. Here’s a last vid from College Humor:
